The chemistry lab is used for development of imaging agents used to visualize cellular functions and assist researchers in studies of liver function, diabetes, brain diseases, cancer and cardiac conditions.
To analyze complex situations, there is need for both improved turnaround of sample handling and the ability to extract as much information as possible from an experiment. Automated methods for reliable, consistent sample handling and spectral analysis are being developed, as are approaches to improve the sensitivity of the NMR experiment.
There is also much interest in the anatomical features of metabolism. New complexes that are sensitive to metabolites and the environment are showing great promise. These will provide a tool for understanding intra- and inter-organ aspects of metabolism.
