Requesting Your Course Sections

WebCT is now eLearning! And we have a new way of doing things! Faculty must now request that course sections be created.  It’s easy - just follow the instructions below!

IMPORTANT!
Course sections do not contain course materials until you assign a template. For details on templates go to the OEE website - http://www.utdallas.edu/oee/  - and click on eLearning Handouts.

Sections are not immediately available after they have been requested. Please check elearning.utdallas.edu after an hour or so. If your sections are not showing in eLearning after a day, please contact us at elearning@utdallas.edu or at 972-883-6960.

Below are instructions on how to request your section(s).

1.       Go to the eLearning Tools page at http://elearningtools.utdallas.edu/smu.  (Don’t forget the smu at the end!)



2.       Click on Main Menu.

3.       Click on Section Management.

4.       Click on the appropriate semester.

5.       Choose what kind of section you want to create.  (For cross-listed sections, skip to Step 12.)

6.       Click on the title of the course.

On the next screen you will see two boxes: Orion Sections and eLearning Sections.

7.       Now click on the title of the course in the Orion Sections window. If your sections does not appear, click the Show All Sections button.



8.       Now click on the right arrow to move the section from Orion into eLearning.  Your section should now be in the eLearning Section box.


Note: use the multiple selections option only when creating cross-listed sections.

9.       You can change the name of the section if you like.



10.   Click Create Section.  Your section will appear below the Orion and eLearning boxes as a section to be loaded. It is now in the schedule to be created.  

Sections are not immediately available. Please wait about one hour before checking to verify your sections have been created and are available in eLearning (http://elearning.utdallas.edu).


When your section has been created, it will appear in the Sections in Orion box.

11.   You can create another section now or log off if you are finished.

Note: You can delete sections up to the moment that they are created in Orion. Once a section is created in Orion and appears in eLearning, you cannot delete it. Contact us at elearning@utdallas.edu if you have a problem.


Creating Cross-Listed Sections

12.    From the Selection Type screen, select cross-listed section.

13.   Select the courses you wish to be cross-listed in eLearning. Click Submit.

14.   Click the section titles in the Orion Sections box. To select multiple sections, hold down the ctrl and shift keys and click the mouse.  If you do not see all of your sections, click the Show All Sections button.



15.   Click the right arrow to move your sections into eLearning.

Note: By default, the primary course listed is by alphabetical order. If you wish to change the primary course, click the Section name box and the appropriate course number.


Notice that you can also change the name of the section.

16.   Click Create Section.

17.   Click Summary to see a list of your sections.



18.   You’re finished! Log out.
