OIE Internships, Independent Studies, and Customized
Programs
If your travel abroad involves any of the following U.T.
Dallas related experiences, it is necessary to complete
OIE protocol:
Internships/Cooperative Education: This program places
students in work assignments related directly to their
fields of study.
Independent Study: Academic work chosen or designed
by the student with the approval of the department concerned,
under a professor's supervision. This work is usually
undertaken outside of the regular classroom structure.
Customized Program: Customized faculty-led study abroad
programs meet specific academic and cultural objectives
by way of field trips and excursions that may consist
of research, service learning, community service, etc.
OIE Requirements:
Submit documentation of the internship, independent
study or customized program.
Meet with an OIE advisor to retrieve, complete,
and turn in the following:

The Associate Dean in each school will have the responsibility
for determining how general courses and
curriculum courses will be applied to the UTD degree
plan.
In addition to your insurance, UTD will provide you
a free International Emergency Insurance, e.g. SOS
