Purpose of Golden Key

Golden Key is the world's premier honor society. We recognize academic excellence and provide tangible value to our members, advisors and partners while positively impacting their lives and society.

Golden Key Pillars

Membership in Golden Key International Honour Society is based on academic achievement, but the organization's mission of each member realizing their full potential, can be found in three pillars: Academics, Leadership and Service.

Academics

Selection for membership in Golden Key is a reflection and recognition of a university student's commitment to academic excellence. Golden Key, in conjunction with its university partners, recognizes high-achieving undergraduates in the top 15% of their class and top‐performing postgraduate students. With hundreds of chapters on campuses around the world, Golden Key offers members a unique opportunity to meet, work with and get to know fellow students who share their passion for learning. Golden Key membership begins with recognition of academic excellence and can lead to a lifetime of learning and achievement.

Leadership

Golden Key offers members an opportunity to cultivate leadership skills that will serve them throughout their personal and professional lives. Chapter leadership groups receive training and ongoing support to ensure that members can learn to organize, plan and execute events and initiatives that benefit the local community. Because Golden Key is a global organization, leadership opportunities are available at the local, regional, national and international levels. Working with like-minded people who have purpose and goals is an invaluable chance to learn and develop as a person and leader.

Service

Golden Key membership provides the opportunity to impact and improve local, regional and global communities. All chapters are encouraged to organize activities that benefit and contribute to the welfare of their community. Golden Key's primary focus is in education-based service initiatives; however chapters and individual members volunteer a vast number of hours to numerous causes each year. Giving back to the community through service and public works is a core Golden Key value.

History of Golden Key

Golden Key International Honour Society, founded on 29 November 1977, is an academic honor society which recognizes and encourages scholastic achievement and excellence among college and university students from all academic disciplines. In an effort to reflect the Society's diversity and international presence, Golden Key uses the globally accepted spelling of "honour" in its name.

Golden Key has emerged as one of the most dynamic, forward-thinking organizations in higher education. Committed to an ethos of recognizing academic achievement and encouraging altruistic service, the Society's on-campus presence has reached over 370 chapters (totalling almost 2 million members) at colleges and universities in seven countries: Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States.

UTD Chapter

The local chapter at The University of Texas at Dallas was founded in 1995. It has recived Gold Standing for the past three years.
