The Association for Computer Educators in Texas, founded in 1965, is dedicated to the advancement of computer education in the state of Texas. It promotes the free exchange of information about state-of-the-art computer hardware, software, publications, teaching methodologies and tools among computer educators, hardware and software vendors, and other computing specialists.
The ACET's objectives include:
In 1965, ACET was formed as Texas Association for Educational Data Systems. It was part of a national organization known as Association for Educational Data Systems. In 1988, the association's name was changed to Association for Computer Educators in Texas to reflect its purpose more accurately. ACET is a non-profit organization.
The association offers its members the following:
Regular membership is available to those who teach computer related subjects, provided they are employed by a private or public school which offers instruction in grades K through 12, community colleges, colleges, universities, and State Department of Education. Persons associated with the operation or management of computing services and software development are also eligible for membership. The Board of Directors may extend associate membership to individuals including students, and sustaining membership to any company or organization interested in the objectives of the association.
