Our Mission

Matthew 5:16

So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Our mission for Fall 2004 is to let our light shine before others, that they may see our good works, and glorify Our Father who is in heaven!  How cool is that!  From our measly good works, we can glorify God, the source of all which is good!

Where can you start with good works you ask?  You can start by driving less recklessly (I am guilty of this!) or being nice to someone who you absolutely know for sure he/she does not deserve it!

Usually, the best works are the ones that are harder to do.  For instance, my mom always nags about me cleaning my room.  The easier thing for me to do is leave my room dirty and take a stand!  The harder thing for me to do is to actually listen to her nagging and carry it out!  Jesus never said it would be easy: Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake (Mt 5:11).  I guess I have to work on her nagging!

Why 'Faith + Works' and not Faith alone?

James 2:22-26

Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect?  And the scripture was fulfilled, saying: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him to justice, and he was called the friend of God. Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? And in like manner also Rahab the harlot, was not she justified by works, receiving the messengers, and sending them out another way? For even as the body without the spirit is dead; so also faith without works is dead.
