Buying Textbooks

Textbooks are very expensive. If you want to save money, don't go to UTD Bookstore. You have the following options to save some money.

Getting used books

Read the "Textbooks For Sale" section on the FACSS Message Board to see if someone is selling a book you are looking for, you can also post a "book wanted" message.

The Online Book Exchange website hosted by UTD Student Government Association is the best place to buy/sell textbooks.

Half.com is a website where you can find used books at half price. This website also has a dollar-off coupon for first time customers. Go to Dealcatcher to find the latest coupon code to save you an extra few dollars.

You can also find used books at UTD Bookstore, but they usually sell it for a higher price.

Getting new books

  • First, go to the UTD bookstore and write down the ISBN number of the book you need. Then go to websites like Dealtime, Pricescan to compare prices. Walmart is not listed on any of the comparison websites mentioned above, but they are also selling textbooks at very low prices.

  • Sometimes U.K. bookstores sell books at much lower prices than their U.S. counterparts. AddALL gives you an idea of how much the book costs in the U.K. bookstores, but prices on Bookbrain are usually lower. Of course you have to plan well ahead if you want to buy it from a U.K. site because it will take up to one month for the book to arrive!
