Coming from the DFW

  • Having a Friend or FACSS Pick You Up
    • Contact in advance
Please fill out this form if you need FACSS to arrange for pickup.

    • Save others' time
Since there is no nonstop flight from China to Dallas, it is quite possible that your flight will be delayed. So, to save others' time, it would be best to call your friend when you arrive at DFW airport and wait for the ride. It takes on average 30 minutes to drive from UTD to DFW airport. And it would be better for you to wait for 30 minutes than for the other person to wait for possibly 1-2 hours. Of course, if you are sure about the arrival time at the connecting airport, give your friend a call to let him/her come early.

    • Use a pay phone
Take some coins so that you can use a pay phone. If you are calling from the DFW airport, insert 35 cents and dial all the 10 digits of the phone number. If you are going to call from a connecting airport in Los Angeles or San Francisco, it would cost you about $1-$3. (Dial 0 to talk to the operator, give her the phone number you want to call and deposit enough coins. It's a good opportunity to practice your oral English :-)) You can also find change machines where you can insert $1 and $5 bills and get quarters (25-cent coins) back.

It's much easier to use a calling card at a payphone if you need to dial long-distance. Basically you just input a series of codes before dialing the real phone number. You can buy a calling card online, or ask a friend to buy one for you. You will need it to call your family in China after you arrive anyways.

  • Taking Shuttle Bus

If you can speak fluent English, and know exactly where you want to go, Supper Shuttle is a good choice. The fare is about $29. You need to make reservation at their website.

    Taxi costs over $50.

  • What's the worst that could happen?

Okay, so suddently everybody seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth and you are stuck in the airport with no one to pick you up. To make matters worse, you have only five bucks in your wallet. What do you do?

First, head to terminal E for the airport shuttle to the train station. The shuttle ride should be free. Buy a "Premium" day pass for $5. Take the Trinity Express (Green Line) to go eastward and change to the red line at Union Station. Make sure that you are on the one that says "Parker Road" (north bound). Get off at Bush Turnpike Station. Find the bus 883. The bus should take you right into UTD.

The whole process should take you from two to two an half hours depending on the time of your arrival. For train/bus schedule, go to DART's website. Please note that the Trinity Railway Express and bus 883 do not operate on Sundays.
