EVENT SPEAKERS

Paul Nelson
Ph.D., in Philosophy of Biology, University of Chicago
Fellow, Discovery Institute
Fellow, International Society for Complexity, Information and Design

Paul Nelson has published articles in such journals as Biology & Philosophy, Zygon, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, and Touchstone, and chapters in the anthologies Mere Creation, Signs of Intelligence, and Intelligent Design Creationism and Its Critics. His forthcoming monograph, On Common Descent, critically evaluates the theory of common descent, and is being edited for the series Evolutionary Monographs. Dr. Nelson is a member of the Society for Developmental Biology, and the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology.

Raymond Bohlin
President, Probe Ministries
Fellow, Discovery Institute

Dr. Bohlin is a graduate of the University of Illinois (B.S., zoology, 1971-1975), the University of North Texas (M.S., population genetics, 1977-1980), and the University of Texas at Dallas (M.S., Ph.D., molecular and cell biology, 1984-1991). He has been with Probe Ministries since 1975 and has lectured and debated on dozens of college and university campuses. He has addressed issues in the creation/evolution debate as well as other science-related issues such as the environment, genetic engineering, medical ethics, and sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Bohlin's work has been published in the Journal of Thermal Biology, Journal of the American Scientific Affiliation and the Journal of Mammalogy. He has also written a book entitled The Natural Limits to Biological Change (Probe Books 1984), which he is currently revising and updating.

Bruce Gordon
Ph.D., in History and Philosophy of Physics, Northwestern University
Fellow,
International Society for Complexity, Information and Design

Dr. Gordon's academic background is varied. In addition to the doctoral degree, he has earned masters degrees in philosophy and systematic theology, and undergraduate degrees in applied mathematics and piano performance. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Philosophy of Religion at the University of Notre Dame before moving to Baylor University in the fall of 1999. Bruce Gordon's work ranges from an exploration of conceptual problems in quantum theory and relativity, to foundational and interpretational issues in the philosophy of science, the philosophical defense and technical articulation of design-theoretic models in physics and biology, the interaction between science and religion, the integration of faith and learning, philosophical theology, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, and philosophical critiques of postmodernity. At present he is working on a series of articles that will lead to a book on the implications of quantum statistics and quantum field theory for the metaphysics of identity, individuation, and modality.

William Dembski
Associate Research Professor, Baylor University
Senior fellow, Discovery Institute
Executive Director for the International Society for Complexity, Information and Design
Ph.D., in Math, University of Chicago
Ph.D., in Philosophy, University of Illinois, Chicago
M.Div. from the Princeton Theological Seminary

Dr. Dembski has published articles in mathematics, philosophy, and theology journals and is the author/editor of seven books including The Design Inference: Eliminating Chance Through Small Probabilities, Intelligent Design: The Bridge Between Science and Philosophy, and No Free Lunch: Why Specified Complexity Cannot Be Purchased Without Intelligence. Dr. Dembski's most recent books are two edited collections: Uncommon Dissent: Intellectuals Who Find Darwinism Unconvincing (ISI, 2004) and Debating Design: From Darwin to DNA (Cambridge University Press, 2004, co-edited with Michael Ruse).
