 • AAPT Offers the Barbara Lotze Scholarship

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) Executive Board offers a scholarship for future high-school physics teachers. This scholarship, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, is available only to US citizens attending a US school.

Undergraduate students in, or planning to enter, physics teacher preparation curricula and high-school seniors planning to enter such curricula are eligible. Successful applicants, normally one per year, will receive a stipend of up to $2,000. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Deadline information, including a pdf application form, can be found online at www.aapt.org. You may also request material by e-mailing the AAPT at aapt-prog@aapt.org.

 • National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU)

The NSF has an important program for undergraduate students, Research Experiences for Undergraduates. The purpose of this program is to help attract a diversified pool of talented students into research careers in these fields, and to help ensure that they receive the best education possible. The undergraduate years are critical in the educational sequence, as career-choice points and as the first real opportunities for in-depth study.
