HOME Policies for the SSGSA Mailing
List
Objectives
- The mailing list is a communication tool to circulate
information for the common interest of SSGSA members.
- The main goal of the policies is to facilitate the
mailing list in efficient and pleasant way for everybody as possible.
Subscription and Withdrawal
- Anybody who want to subscribe to the mailing list should
send an email to
SSGSA-admins@utdallas.edu with ‘subscribe’ in the subject line and
- Social Sciences graduate students: subscriber’s
name and student ID in the body of the email.
- Alumni: subscriber’s name, the degree (MPA,
Ph.D, etc.), and the year of graduation in the body of the email
- Outsiders: subscriber’s name, phone number, and
the purpose of the subscription in the body of the email
Rules
- No one posts the message to the mailing list for profit.
- No commercial advertisements, no spams (Used items
for-sale or boarding information is fine).
- Exceptions may be given to the messages that are
highly related to SSGSA students.
- This mailing list is for exchanging information only.
To reduce the traffic, please Keep It Simple (but not Stupid).
- Do not re-post your message without urgent cause. If
you have to repost the same message again, wait for at least one week.
- No virus warnings unless you know what you are talking
about. Don't just forward other's warning. Don't pass rumors about virus or
etc.
- No chain letters.
Operation procedures
- Only listed email account can post to the mailing list
by sending emails to
SSGSA@utdallas.edu
- SSGS members will be warned of the violation of the
rules if it happens. An outsider who violates the rules will be removed from
the list without warning.
- If a student insists to subscribe to the list using an
outside e-mail address, he/she will be treated as an outsider.
- If the mailing list server program has problem
delivering a message, it will send ("bounce") a message to the list owner
(either a warning or a fatal error report, which is quite annoying). If a list
member's account is temporary closed (such as mailbox exceeds quota) or
permanently closed, or if the UTD mail server has problem connecting to an
outside list member's machine, there is no way for the list owner to contact
the list member. The list member will be removed from the mailing list if such
kind of problem lasts for over 2-3 days. If a list member experiences problem
receiving mail for more than a few days, they should check if they are still
on the mailing list.
Something to pay attention to
- If you send mail from a web browser or MS Outlook
Express, be sure to mail text only. Do not post marked-up text.
- If you are not sure your message is sent or not, wait
for 30 min and check your own mailbox. If it still hasn't shown up, post
again, but only once (the mail server may be down at the moment, more postings
won't help).
- If something is changed since you post your message and
you want to post again, please indicate what is changed, not just the old
message with the modifications, so that others won't have to read your whole
message again.
Comments are welcome to the administrator (
SSGSA-admins@utdallas.edu).
Check the archive of the mails.
