The Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA) communicates information on the undergraduate student experience through a common web reporting template, the College Portrait. The VSA is designed to help institutions demonstrate accountability and stewardship to the public, measure educational outcomes to identify effective educational practices, and assemble information that is accessible, understandable, and comparable.

Common Data Set
The Common Data Set Initiative (CDS) is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers as represented by The College Board, Peterson's - a Thomson Learning Company, U.S. News & World Report, and Wintergreen/ Orchard House. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers. Data on student characteristics include ethnic origin, gender, age, residency, and instructional program (major). Enrollment information is based on data compiled as of the 12th class day (census day) of each semester.
Semester Credit Hours
This section includes data on semester credit hours produced by semester, college, academic area, and level as well as student full time equivalencies and average course loads. Semester credit hour information is based on data compiled as of the 12th class day (census day) of each semester.
This section contains information on degrees awarded by school, ethnicity and gender for Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.
Data on UTD faculty includes headcount by rank, ethnic origin, gender and tenure status.

The University of Texas at Dallas is divided into seven schools. Data includes degrees offered, student enrollment by classification and semester credit hours by classification and by course subject for each school.
