Core Curriculum Assessment

What is the Core?

UTD requires that all students complete a general education Core Curriculum of 42 semester credit hours that serves as a broad foundation for the undergraduate degree. These requirements must be met by every student pursuing a baccalaureate degree at UTD, regardless of their major. Specific approved courses must be used to satisfy each Core requirement (see the current Undergraduate Catalog). In accordance with the Texas Education Code (Section 61.822), a student who successfully completes the entirety of a Core Curriculum at another Texas public institution of higher education before matriculating at UTD may transfer that block of courses to UTD where it will be substituted for the UTD Core Curriculum. If a student does not complete all of the Core Curriculum at another Texas public institution of higher education before matriculating at UTD, the student will receive credit for the portion completed and then be required to complete additional courses from UTD's Core Curriculum.

Core Course Assessment

Faculty members who are teaching general education core courses develop clear and measurable assessments to evaluate students’ success in achieving the student learning objectives created by the UTD Core Curriculum Committee (CCC). The OSSA provides workshops, consultation, and direct support to faculty who teach general education core courses and their home departments. Contact us for more information or to arrange a meeting.
