GEMS Center Hours & Offerings

GEMS Center Computing Lab and Math Lab (CN 1.206)

The GEMS Lab is a proctored, secure environment supporting a limited array of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses. All students entering for any reason are required to present a valid UTD Comet Card prior to admittance, and personal technology (e.g. cell phones, MP3 players, pagers, other wireless devices, etc.) are strictly prohibited.

In addition, no food, beverages, water bottles and/or other beverage containers are permitted. Spilled beverages create a potential safety hazard due to the numerous electrical connections and computers. Spilled beverages and food particles also shorten the life of computer equipment, furniture and carpeting, and attract ants and other pests, all of which increase maintenance costs which we would rather put toward GEMS student success initiatives. Fortunately, the Conference Center lobby and adjacent outdoor spaces provide excellent areas in which to take a break from GEMS Lab activities.

Consult with a GEMS Desk worker for additional information, and check out our online resources, as well. With the exception of University closings, GEMS Lab hours are:

PLTL/SI/Instructional Classrooms (CN 1.202 and 1.204)

Located adjacent to the GEMS Lab, the GEMS Center classrooms are scheduled primarily for peer-led team learning (PLTL), supplemental instruction (SI), a limited array of GEMS-related courses, and associated meetings. Students participating in PLTL contract through a faculty member; schedules are sent to students and posted on classroom doors. With the exception of University closings, the current SI schedule is posted here:

Fall 2009 SI Schedule

PLTL sessions are scheduled by course section and students are informed individually of their session's day, time and location. If you have forgotten or are unsure about your PLTL assignment or are interested in learning more about how you might become a PLTL or SI leader and work in the GEMS Center, send an e-mail message.
