Power Outages Planned Over Winter Break

December 11, 2015

In order to minimize disruptions and inconvenience, UT Dallas Facilities Management has scheduled several power outages during winter break for annual maintenance, inspections and cleaning of critical equipment.

The Central Energy Plant (CEP) and Satellite Utility Plant (SUP), which affect heating and air conditioning only, will be shut down from 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, through Monday, December 28. Several campus buildings will be without heating or air conditioning while maintenance work is performed.

In addition, maintenance projects will interrupt power to the Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory (RL) from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22; and the Administration Building (AD) from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2.

All power will be out in these buildings during maintenance. No one will be allowed into the affected buildings during the power outages without prior notification and authorization of the UT Dallas Police.

Occupants of the affected buildings should turn off their computers and any other equipment that may be affected by the outage.

Fencing to Close Visual Arts Studio East Entrance

November 20, 2015

During the afternoon of Friday, November 20, crews will be expanding the construction fence around the Landscape Enhancement Project near the Science Learning Center (SLC) and the Visual Arts Studio (AS).

The new fencing will close the entrance on the east side of the Visual Arts Studio, although it may still be used as an emergency exit. Pedestrians should plan to enter the Visual Arts Studio on the west side until further notice.

Beginning Monday, November 16, Lot R users will need to use the Facilities Way entrance to access their parking. Facilities Way still will be partially blocked by barricades, but Lot R traffic will be able to travel through and across the new Loop Road bridge, which will be temporarily open to Lot R traffic only.

Additionally, the west lane of the Lot R exit, the sidewalk along the Lot R entrance to the Administration Building (AD), and a portion of Loop Road pavement to the west will be barricaded off to begin demolition. Pedestrians coming from PS3 toward the Administration Building will be detoured to a temporary decomposed granite sidewalk around the construction site.

Weather permitting, the newly aligned Loop Road west toward Rutford Avenue will reopen on Monday, November 30. Simultaneously, the new bridge will close east of Lot R in order to facilitate work on the bridge rails, road striping and the embankment. During this time, Lot R traffic should revert to using the Rutford Avenue campus entrance.

All segments of the new road and bridge will open to the public on Friday, December 18, weather permitting.
