Temporary Closure of Administration Building North Sidewalk

December 13, 2016

Beginning December 19, the sidewalk from parking Lot R to the Administration Building (AD) will be closed for renovation. During this time the two north entrances to the building will be inaccessible. Signage and barricades will be in place to redirect pedestrian traffic. It is recommended that pedestrians walk around the building to use the south or southwest entrances off the North Mall. Two visitor spaces near the flag poles in Lot R will also be closed to allow room for construction equipment, but no other parking spaces will be affected.

Weather permitting, the sidewalk may be available for use in mid-January. However, the entire project, which includes lighting and landscape work, will not be complete until the beginning of March. Temporary closures may be necessary throughout some phases of the project. Please continue to check this site for updates.

Winter Break Planned Power Outages and Maintenance

In order to minimize disruptions and inconvenience, UT Dallas Facilities Management has scheduled campus utility outages during winter break to conduct annual maintenance, inspections and cleaning of critical equipment.

The Central Energy Plant, which affects heating and air conditioning only, will be shut down from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, through Wednesday, December 28. Several campus buildings will be without heating or air conditioning while maintenance work is performed.

A campus-wide power outage will occur Thursday, December 22, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Everyone in the below listed buildings is encouraged to take the necessary precautions to ensure equipment will not be affected by the outage. Please make sure that all computers and sensitive equipment are turned off to prevent the loss of critical information.

For safety, no one will be allowed to enter the affected buildings during the outage. Emergency generators will operate normally.

Utility Outage Planned for November 20-23

November 18, 2016

From November 20-23, chilled water and air conditioning systems supporting the Naveen Jindal School of Management (JSOM) addition and the Edith O'Donnell Arts and Technology Building (ATC) will be offline to allow crews to connect utility lines for the Davidson Gundy Alumni Center. The systems will be restored to normal operations by November 24.

Power Outage Planned for November 18

A planned power outage will occur Thursday, November 18 to tie in electrical lines for the new Engineering Building.

The outage is expected to last approximately four hours from 3:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. and will impact the following 13 buildings only:

  • Administration Building (AD)
  • Classroom Building (CB), formerly ELS building)
  • Founders North (FN)
  • Cecil and Ida Green Center (GC)
  • Cecil H. Green Hall (GR)
  • Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO)
  • North Office Building (NB)

  • Parking Structure 3 (PS3)
  • Physics Building (PHY) and Physics Annex (PHA)
  • Theatre (TH)
  • Visual Art Studio

Everyone in the above listed buildings is encouraged to take the necessary precautions to ensure equipment will not be affected by the outage. Please make sure all computers and sensitive equipment are turned off before you leave today to prevent the loss of data.

For safety, no one will be allowed to enter the affected buildings during the outage.

Parking Structure 3 Temporary Closure for Repairs, November 22-27

November 16, 2016

Parking Structure 3 (PS3) will undergo repair work from Tuesday, November 22 through Sunday, November 27. During this timeframe, only the north portion of level 1 will be open for parking. All other levels will be closed. Dusty and noisy conditions are expected on the first level of PS3.

Please review the Parking Map (PDF [Portable Document Format File] ) and plan to use other parking lot alternatives during these dates. PS3 will reopen on Monday, November 28.

Gas Line Relocation to Impact Pedestrian Paths Near Phase 9 Apartments

November 4, 2016

Beginning Monday, December 5, Atmos will start work to re-locate a natural gas line on Rutford south of the Energy Plant (EP), near the Phase 9 apartments. Fencing for the work site will block portions of the sidewalks in this area, but detour signage will be in place for pedestrians. Sidewalks along Rutford will remain open. The expected completion date for the project December 31, weather permitting.

Oct 24 - Oct 28 Complete any unfinished prep work on new DRS station, make ready for testing. Test HP steel lines & Test new intermediate line. Make ready for TDW tapping or 12” HP.
Oct 31 - Nov 4 TDW tapping of 12” HP line, Clean up of work area. Make up days for any weather delays.
Nov 7 - Nov 11 Set up fencing, begin locating existing lines at DRS station to be removed on the UTD Campus, begin excavation of inlet and out let legs to be tapped and killed.
Nov 14 - Nov 18 If usable taps are found and TDW is available to Tap the kills can take place this week. If new taps are needed this week will be welding and testing of new taps.
Nov 21 - Nov 23 If TDW is available tapping/kill/removal of existing DRS station. If Tapping is complete, cleanup will begin.
Nov 28 - Dec 2 Any additional cleanup will take place

Temporary Maintenance Closures in Parking Lots A, B and C

September 23, 2016

Beginning Monday, September 26, at 7:00 a.m., the Northeast entrance to the Activity Center (facing the mall) will be closed due to renovations to the control desk area. Access to the facility will be via the North entrance doors which are near the main gym. The Visitor Center and University Bookstore (VCB) doors will not be affected and can also be used to enter the facility. The renovation project should last about two weeks. Temporary Lot A Maintenance Closure Starts September 1

Temporary Lot A Maintenance Closure

The back portion of Lot A will temporarily close for maintenance the morning of Friday, September 2. In order to complete the project, this area of the lot must be vacant. All vehicles should be removed from the area by 11:30 p.m. Thursday, September 1.

Weather permitting, this portion of Lot A will reopen Tuesday, September 6. Please plan to use other nearby lots or parking structures during this timeframe.

Temporary Maintenance Closures in Parking Lots A, B and C

August 1, 2016

Beginning August 1, crews will be working to complete maintenance and repairs in the east portions of Lots A, B and C over the next three weeks. Weather permitting, all repairs will be completed by the start of school and are scheduled as follows:

  • East Lot C will be closed August 1-2.
  • East Lot A will be completed in two phases from August 3-12. Crews will complete the northeast portion of the lot first, and then move to the southeast portion of the lot so that parking remains available in the area during repairs.
  • East Lot B will be closed August 15-19.

Please plan to use other nearby lots or parking structures during these timeframes. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Roadwork to Change Access to Lot U, Athletic Fields

July 27, 2016

On Friday July 29, the Loop Road Southwest campus entrance will close for approximately one year to accommodate construction on Student Housing Phases 6 and 7.

To help drivers access this area of campus, a new road connecting Lot U to University Parkway has been opened and can be used as a more direct way to enter or exit the lot when entering campus from Campbell Road. To access Lot U from Waterview Parkway, drivers should enter campus on Franklyn Jenifer Drive, turn right on Drive H and left on Field Street into the lot.

Temporary Parking Lot Closures July 22-24

July 20, 2016

In preparation for the fall semester, five campus parking lots will be temporarily closed for maintenance over the upcoming weekend. Lots J, Q and D will be closed Friday, July 22, and Lots H and M will be closed Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24. In order to complete this work, the lots must be vacant. All vehicles should be removed from the lots by 11:30 p.m. the night before their scheduled closures.

Demolition to Impact Pedestrian Paths

July 15, 2016

Demolition of the Alexander Clark Center building will begin Monday, July 18. Additional fencing will be installed beginning Thursday, July 14, around the demolition site which will block the sidewalk on the west side of Rutford Ave. and the north side of Franklyn Jenifer Dr. near the building. Look for pedestrian detour signage in the area. Pedestrians needing to access Lot H from this area will have to go through Karl Hoblitzelle Hall (HH) or around the north side of Hoblitzelle Hall. Expect additional noise and construction traffic in the area as well.

Once demolition is complete and the site is clear, construction will begin on the new the 200,000-square-foot Engineering Building this fall. The building, which will primarily house the Mechanical Engineering Department, will contain research and teaching labs, faculty offices, student workspaces and a 300-seat auditorium that will be named in honor of Dr. Alexander Clark, a former vice president of academic affairs and one-time acting president of the University.

Repairs Planned for Parking Lots A and B

July 6, 2016

On July 5, the western portion of Lot A will close for asphalt repairs. Drivers should utilize the other nearby lots or parking structures during the repairs. Once this work is completed, Lot A will reopen and a portion of Lot B, including the connection between Lot A and B, will close for repairs. Weather permitting, all repairs will be completed by the end of July.

Part of the west side of Lot H will also be closed, but the rest of the lot will stay open for parking. Drivers will still be able to access Lot H from Drive L by using a slight detour. Look for barricades and directional signage in the area, and allow additional time to reach your destination.

The section of Drive A from Waterview Parkway to Drive H, now known as Franklyn Jenifer Drive, has reopened to traffic; however in a few weeks the current Drive H closure will be extended north to Drive L so crews can continue utility and road work in this area of campus. Part of the west side of Lot H will also be closed. Drivers will still be able to access Lot H from Drive L.

Utility Work to Temporarily Close Drives F and A

June 8, 2016

Drive F and a portion of Drive A between the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center construction site and the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building (ATC [Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building] ) will close June 11 through the end of July for utility work related to the alumni center. Barricades will be placed at the intersection to Drive A and G, and access to the ATC [Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building] loading dock and the JSOM EDR [Naveen Jindal School of Management Executive Dining Room] loading dock will be restricted. Access to Parking Structure 1 (PS1 [Parking Structure 1] ) will not be impacted.

Daytime Closure of Drive G

June 6, 2016

Drive G will be partially closed from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 8, 9, 10, 13, and 14, as part of the construction on the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center. Drivers will still be able to access Lots G and E from Drive G, but those needing to access Parking Structure 1 (PS1) should use Loop Road or Armstrong Drive to Drive A as an alternate route. Weather permitting, Drive G will reopen on June 15.

Lot U Roadway Construction

June 6, 2016

Construction will begin on a new roadway connecting Lot U to the southbound lanes of University Parkway on Monday, June 13. A temporary, partial lane closure on University Parkway will occur, but is not expected to significantly impact traffic. Please use caution in the area and watch for barriers and construction crews. The project is expected to be completed in late July, weather permitting.

Construction and Roadwork to Impact Campus Traffic Flow

May 23, 2016

On Monday, May 23, the Alexander Clark Center will close to begin preparing the building for demolition, which is expected to begin in mid-June and be completed in late summer. Some of the demolition may cause additional construction traffic, loud noise, heavy machinery and dusty conditions in the area.

Also starting Monday, May 23, Drive H across Drive A from the modular labs to the south apartment drive access will be closed for several weeks of underground utility work for Parking Structure 4. Access to the apartment parking areas will remain open along Drive H from the north or south, respective of the apartment location. When the Drive A crossing work is completed, Drive H to Drive L will be closed. The only entrance to parking Lot H will be on the north side of the lot.

Road work on Drive A and Drive H also will continue this summer and is expected to be finished for the start of the fall semester. Continue to monitor this site for periodic updates on traffic rerouting.

Construction on Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center Closes Part of Lot E

May 19, 2016

Construction on the 30,000-square-foot Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center has begun. Fencing has been installed around the building site, and the tennis court portion of Lot E will be closed during construction. The rest of Lot E will remain open. The new building is expected to be completed in spring 2017. Please continue to check this site for updates about this and other construction projects on campus.

PS4 Update

April 1, 2016

Work is continuing on the installation of utility lines needed for Parking Structure 4 (PS4). Additional noise is expected in the area until the project is complete.

PS4 is scheduled to open during the fall 2016 semester, weather permitting. The project will add about 1,150 parking spaces to campus and includes the widening of Drives A and H.

Drive A Pedestrian Path Temporarily Closed

March 29, 2016

The Drive A pedestrian and golf cart path will be closed from March 29 through April 25 as crews continue roadwork.

Please take alternate routes, such as the hike and bike trails along Waterview Parkway, and allow additional time to reach your destination.

Weather permitting, it will reopen on April 26.

Power Outage Planned for March 19

A planned power outage will occur on Saturday, March 19, from 3:00 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. to repair critical electrical equipment in the Administration Building, Jonsson Academic Center and Green Hall.

The outage will impact the following buildings during these estimated timeframes:

Drive H Closure for Utility Repairs

March 14, 2016

A section of Drive H will be closed tomorrow, March 15, while Atmos Energy crews work to repair the damaged gas line near the intersection of Drives A and H.

All apartment complex entrances in the area will remain accessible. Drivers should use the Drive L campus entrance to reach Lot H.

Repairs are expected to be complete by the end of the day on March 15.

Oncor to Perform Electrical Work for Northside

March 7, 2016

As Northside construction continues, Oncor crews will be working from March 8 through mid-April to relocate power lines for the development which also supply power to campus.

While no power outages are expected as part of this work, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to save their work often to keep data safe in the event something unplanned happens.

Landscape Enhancement Update

On Monday, March 7, the path starting on the north side of the Science Learning Center (SLC) going east between Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO) and Founders North (FN) toward the mall will reopen for pedestrian use. The fenced area north of SLC and east of the Visual Arts Studio will remain closed to continue construction.

Additionally, by close of business on Thursday March 10, fencing will be placed near the Administration Building (AD) so crews can renovate a portion of the pedestrian ramp leading into the North Mall. During construction, vehicle access to the west AD loading dock and parking area will be closed. However, pedestrian access to the southwest entrance of the AD building will remain open. This will not affect access to the northwest loading dock of the Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO) from Drive D. Weather permitting, the ramp area is expected to reopen by April 4.

Roadwork related to the Parking Structure 4 construction project is continuing progress. On Saturday, March 5, the new Drive H extension, which connects to Loop Road SW, will open. Simultaneously, the remaining west portion of Drive A, from Drive H to Waterview Parkway, will close. Drivers needing to enter campus from Waterview Parkway should use Loop Road SW or Drive L.

Carts and pedestrians will be able to access Drive A from Waterview, then pass through Housing Phase 1 to get to Drive H.

Power Outage Scheduled for February 5

On Friday, February 5 at 11:00 p.m., a planned power outage will cut electrical service to the following buildings:

  • English Learning Center (ELS)
  • Erik Jonsson Academic Center (JO)
  • Founders North (FN)
  • North Lab (NL)
  • North Office Building (NB)
  • Parking Structure 3 (PS3)
  • Physics Building (PHY) and Physics Annex (PHA)
  • Visual Art Studio

The purpose of the shutdown is to perform maintenance on the electrical distribution systems in these buildings. We expect to have power restored by approximately 7:00 a.m., except for the Administration Building (AD) which will be restored at 10:00 a.m.

If you have any equipment in these areas, please take the necessary precautions to make sure it will not be affected by the shutdown.

Please make sure that all computers are turned off and protect sensitive equipment to prevent the loss of critical information.

For safety reasons, no one will be allowed in the affected buildings during this outage without UTD Police authorization.

City to Change Synergy-Floyd Intersection to All-Way Stop

February 3, 2016

UT Dallas Police urge motorists to exercise caution at the busy Synergy-Floyd intersection on Thursday as city work crews install two new stop signs. When the work is completed Friday, drivers will need to bring their vehicles to a complete stop before traveling either direction on Synergy Park Boulevard.

The city planned the new all-way stop in response to University requests for a study of traffic counts. In addition to the stop signs, the pavement markings will be refreshed and updated to include stop bars on Synergy.

On Monday, February 8, the gravel pathway on the east side of the creek near Callier Center Richardson (CR) will temporarily close to allow construction crews to install utility lines to the new Callier Richardson expansion. During this time, pedestrians should use the path on the west side of the creek, which passes the Bioengineering Science Building (BSB) and Natural Science and Engineering Research Lab (RL) buildings. Weather permitting, work will be complete and the path will reopen at the end of March.

Landscape enhancement work on the walkway from the Trellis to Rutford Avenue is on track to be completed by December 21. At this time, doors that were blocked for the project’s construction in Lloyd V. Berkner Hall (BE), Founders Building (FO), Engineering and Computer Science North (ECSN) and the Student Union (SU) will reopen for pedestrian use.

Simultaneously, the west side door to the Student Union Food Court (SUFC) will close to better accommodate construction on the Campus Landscape Enhancement Project, scheduled for completion late spring 2016.

Progress also continues on landscape work near the Visual Art Studio, the Science Learning Center (SLC), Founders North (FN), Founders Building (FO) and Founders West Annex (FA). Some pedestrian paths and building entrances will remain blocked by fencing, but all buildings will be accessible during the project, which is estimated to be finished late spring 2016.
