Crime Prevention Unit

The Department's Crime Prevention Unit is supervised by the Capatin of Administrative & Investigative Services, and comprised of a Crime Prevention Corporal and a Crime Prevention Non-Commissioned Officer. The unit serves as the primary coordinator of Crime Prevention Programs and is assisted by other officers serving in support roles. Areas of responsibility include group presentations, awareness & orientation programs. Additionally the unit works with other community oriented programs for student involvement with the UTD Police Department such as the Law Enforcement Explorers program.

Crime Prevention Tips

  • Always walk in groups of two or more if possible.
  • Have your keys ready when walking to your car.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, avoid using cell phones or MP3 players if possible.
  • Always lock your doors and windows when you are not home.
  • Utilize the campus escort service by calling 972-883-2331 any time of day.
  • Don't leave valuables where they can be seen.
  • Carry as little cash as possible.
  • Keep a record of your credit cards and carry as few with you as possible.
  • Never leave personal property unattended even for a few minutes.
