The Scholarship provides $1,000 support in the junior year, and another $1,000 support in the senior year, to at least one undergraduate student who is enrolled full time, who majors or minors in Government and Politics (Political Science), and who participates in the University’s Pre-Law Program. The Scholarship also provides $1,000 support for one year to a graduate student who is enrolled full time in the newly proposed Master of Legal Studies degree and who participates in the University’s Pre-Law Program.
An interested individual must submit 4 application materials: (1) a letter of interest stating any prior experience with, and potential contributions to, the study and application of law or judicial process; (2) two letters of reference, both preferably written by faculty who are familiar with the student’s academic record; (3) a transcript of prior coursework grades with an overall GPA of not less then 3.5; (4) a professional resume, as appropriate. Applications are due not later than March 1 to be considered for Scholarships that start the following Fall semester. The Legal Education Scholarship was jointly established in 2007 by Dr. Anthony Champagne, University Pre-Law Director and Professor of Political Science, in recognition of the many achievements of Pre-Law students, and by Dr. Marianne C. Stewart, Professor of Political Science, in memory of His Honour Judge Gordon R. Stewart, Q.C. (Queen’s Counsel).
