Knots in Biological Sciences
A Workshop sponsored by CIMAT, UT Dallas, and UT Southwestern Medical Center
The University of Texas at Dallas, April 28, 2005
The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) and the Centro de Investigaciones en Matemáticas A.C. (CIMAT) signed an Agreement of Collaboration on February 17th, 2005 in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, México, confirming their commitment to continue establishing exchange programs beneficial to the respective educational institutions and to promote the development of joint studies, research and training activities, and other educational programs of mutual interest.
UT Dallas and CIMAT believe that international understanding and educational opportunities of their students and faculty would be enhanced by international academic and scientific cooperation.
As part of this bilateral scientific and institutional agenda, UT Dallas and CIMAT had the initiative to organize this workshop closing bridges of good understanding between Mexico and the United States. The knowledge of knots, as Ray Baughman suggested, are important on downsizing yarning. In fact different electronic knots would lead to different electronic functionalities, synthesizing a fruitful area between topologists and scientists.
The workshop will take place at The University of Texas at Dallas and bring specialists with backgrounds in mathematics, physics, biology, and other disciplines from the University of Iowa, The University of Texas at Dallas, the Centro de Investigaciones en Matemáticas A.C. (CIMAT), among other institutions. It is the excitement of topical efforts and of people working on this subject on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border that will be the main pursuit of this workshop.
