Mechanic of Granular Materials (May 9)
Emir Macari - dean and professor of the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology at The University of Texas at Brownsville will be giving a presentation called "Mechanics of Granular Materials" at 4:00pm on May 9 in the TI Auditorium (room 2.102) in the Engineering and Computer Science South building on The University of Texas at Dallas campus.
It is widely accepted that the mechanical behavior of granular materials is largely governed by the interaction of the solid skeleton with fluids present in the pore structure. This interaction is particularly strong in quasi-static and dynamic problems involving geomaterials and may lead to the catastrophic loss of strength resulting in landslides and liquefaction under earthquake loading. This presentation discusses the mechanics of granular materials under low effective stress levels. The results of Micro-gravity experiments about the STS orbiter will be presented.

Jo Anna Couch, M.S. will be speaking. Couch has been a business professor, seminar leader, teacher, public speaker, and coach for over 15 years. After completing a Master's degree in business and a minor in psychology from Abilene Christian University-Dallas, she began consulting work in professional development training. KDFW Fox 4 Report Jeff Crilley is giving a presentation at 7:30am on Thursday, May 19 at the Holiday Inn Select in Richardson located at 1655 N. Central Expressway. He will discuss the ways of pitching a story so that it is more likely to get covered. Jeff Crilley is an Emmy Award winning TV reporter in Dallas. During his 20 years in television news he has made hundreds of national news appearances including CNN, CNN Headline News, FOX News, The Discovery Channel, Good Morning America and The CBS Early Show.

Protecting Intellectual Property in China (May 19)
Haynes and Boone, LLP and uniView Technologies Corp are hosting a panel discussion on "Protecting Intellectual Property in China" at 11:30am on Thursday, May 19 in the Galaxy Rooms at the Student Union on The University of Texas at Dallas campus.
