IEEE Meeting: SIP as an API for Network Based Speech Applications (Nov. 15)

The IEEE ( Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Communications & Vehicular Technology and Computer Societies are have a technical lunch program at 11am on Tuesday, November 15 at the Holiday Inn Select located at 1655 N. Central Expressway in Richardson. Randy Waters, the founder and CEO of Carrius Technologies will be discussing “SIP as an API for Network Based Speech Applications.” SIP was created as a peer-to-peer control protocol to manage multimedia sessions. SIP has attracted industry-wide attention for its power and simplicity. Efforts have been underway to extend SIP to function as an API for network based speech applications. While 3rd Party Call Control and other RFCs lay the groundwork, much more work remains to establish SIP as a general-purpose API for call and speech control applications. Meanwhile, markup languages like VXML and CCXML will continue to lead the way as open APIs for speech applications. This talk explores the evolution of APIs and what lies ahead for application developers. There is a $5 lunch charge for IEEE members and a $10 charge for non-members. No reservation is required – lunch is limited to the first 150 people to arrive.

Opening of Mexico Live Images (Nov. 21)

Photographs by Alejandro Boneta and Pablo Cervantes will be on display at The University of Texas at Dallas campus. The opening of the show will be held at 3pm on November 21 at the Cecil and Ida Green Center on the UTD campus. Ernesto Enkerlin, the president of the Mexican National Commission for Protected Areas (CONANP) will give a lecture and a reception will follow. Under the framework of the Fifth National Week of Conservation in Mexico, the exhibition shows the creative lens of Alejandro Boneta and Pablo Cervantes, perpetuating in images the indescribable beauty of diverse ecosystems of the Mexican Republic.

The rich natural environment of Mexico is very impressive, from large wildlife zones, variegated beautiful coralline reefs and deserts that seem to be endless, to flower and fauna species that are truly astounding. This richness is what makes Mexico one of the five countries with major biodiversity at a world level.

UTA Workshop on Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting (Jan. 27)

University of Texas at Arlington College of Engineering's Automation & Robotics Research Institute is hosting a conference on January 27 on Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting on January 27 at their location at 7300 Jack Newell Blvd. S. in Fort Worth, Texas

Vast reductions in the size and power consumption of CMOS circuitry have led to focused research efforts on small and efficient power sources. Much of the current emphasis has been on developing on-site generators that transform an available mechanical energy into electrical energy.

This workshop will bring together academic and industrial researchers on one platform to review past developments, current challenges and future goals in the field of piezoelectric energy harvesting. The presence of the leading industries, both nationally and internationally, in the field of energy harvesting and piezoelectrics at one location makes this a landmark event.

The workshop will also feature displays by innovators in piezoelectric energy harvesting and demonstrations their latest technologies.
