Fostering Continued Active Growth of Nanotechnology Development and Commerce in North Texas (March 7)

The Metroplex Technology Business Council Nanotechnology Focus Group meeting will be at 11:30am on March 7.  Dr. Robert Doering of Texas Instruments will present "Nanoelectronics Research Collaboration Among Industry, Government, and Universities".

Dr. Doering is a Senior Fellow and Technology Strategy Manager at Texas Instruments.  His previous positions at TI include: Manager of Future-Factory Strategy, Director of Scaled-Technology Integration, and Director of the Microelectronics Manufacturing Science and Technology (MMST) Program.  The MMST Program was a 5-year R&D effort, funded by DARPA, the U.S. Air Force, and Texas Instruments, which developed a wide range of new technologies for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.  Lunch will be provided so registration is required to Dave. DFBT: Developing Early-Stage Inventions (March 8)

Fred Patterson of The Commercialization Funding Coach; Connie L. Luthy, PhD, MBA of Medical Product Innovation, and Denise Lynn Merkle, PhD of SciConsult Incorporated, will be speaking at the Dallas Forum for Biomedical Technology meeting from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, hosted by the North Texas Small Business Development Center at the Bill J. Priest Institute, 202 East Border Street in Dallas.  Jo-An Weddle, Director of the SBDC for Enterprise Excellence will be moderating.  Tours of begin at 9:00a.m.  With prepayment, there is a $15 cost for members and a $25 cost for nonmembers--$5 higher at the door.  RSVPs/prepayments should be made by noon March 7.  For more information and to register, visit the DFBT website www.dfbt.org and click on "Events."

Cambridge University Centre for Gender Studies (March 9)

The Cambridge University Centre for Gender Studies will be holding its 9th Annual Symposium on from 9:30am – 4:30pm Thursday March 9 2006 in the Howard building, Downing College on the Cambridge campus. The symposium is traditionally held to celebrate International Women's Day and each year it focuses on a different theme relevant to gender issues.

This year the overall theme is ‘Gender and Religion’. Academics from a variety of disciplines including Theology, Political Sciences, Law and History will explore the relations between gender and religion with an emphasis on tensions which may open up creative and productive possibilities.

Dr Janet Soskice, University Reader in Philosophical Theology, said, "Religious symbolism, relating to both men and women, has a deep and abiding impact on the way we live our lives. Four billion people world-wide class themselves as religious adherents and so the symposium should be of interest to all students of culture."

Richardson Chamber of Commerce: How Successful Entrepreneurs Make Decisions (March 16)

The Richardson Chamber of Commerce is hosting a presentation by business consulatant Dr. Richard Tozer at 7:30am on Thursday, March 16 at the Holiday Inn Select – Richardson at 1655 N. Central Expressway. Register by noon on Monday, March 13 to receive the "Early Bird" price of $15 for members and $20 for non-members. After the deadline, there is a $10 surcharge.Webster defines entrepreneur as "one who organizes, manages and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise." Raytheon & Systems of Systems Engineering (March 16)

Join Jack Costello, vice president of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Network Centric Systems when he presents "Raytheon & Systems of Systems Engineering" at 11am on March 16 in the TI Auditorium on The University of Texas at Dallas campus.  As one of the nation’s largest aerospace and defense companies, the Raytheon Company is continuously working with 21st Century information and netcentric technologies as they apply to future business.  Much of Raytheon’s strategic direction focuses on the systems and systems-of-systems engineering requirements necessary for solutions to the complex problems of a diverse customer population.  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact keithly@utdallas.edu.
