Qpixel Technology Raises $25 Million in Second Round Funding
Representatives of Qpixel Technology International, Inc., an innovator in advanced low-power digital video and audio encoder/decoder solutions, announced Wednesday that it has secured $25 million in its second round of investment funding.
Led by venture capitalist Bandel Carano, the financing comes from a combination of sources including Oak Investment Partners, Technology Associates Management Company (TAMC), Acorn Campus and iD SoftCapital Group. In conjunction with this investment, Brian Hinman will join Qpixel's board of directors representing Oak Investment Partners

Investor Group Completes Acquisition of Analog and Mixed Signal Group from Alliance Semiconductor
A group of investors, led by Shah Capital Partners, and including August Capital, has announced Tuesday that they have completed the acquisition of the Analog and Mixed Signal Business Unit from Alliance Semiconductor.
The new company will be called PulseCore Semiconductor, Inc. PulseCore is a leading provider of standard and custom high speed and low power analog and mixed-signal silicon solutions. These high performance Integrated Circuits (ICs) offer leading OEMs solutions to their EMI reduction, clocking, power management and system monitoring requirements.
PulseCore has deployed these solutions in over 75 million end products worldwide. PulseCore Semiconductor offers an extensive line of high performance clocking devices and system monitors for the digital consumer, PC peripheral and Datacom / Telecom markets. Leveraging its core competence of Analog and Mixed-Signal design, PulseCore continues to deliver innovative solutions to these markets.

HubSpot Announces Seed Round Funding
Representatives of HubSpot LLC, a software company offering enterprise-class applications right-sized for very small businesses, announced Wednesday that it has raised seed round funding totaling $500,000 from private investors.
The company was founded in 2005 by Dharmesh Shah and Brian Halligan while both were graduate students at MIT. Both have extensive experience in the software industry and started HubSpot to provide the benefit of enterprise software to the millions of very small businesses (VSBs).
HubSpot has created the industry's first totally integrated suite of hosted business applications including a contemporary website, customer relationship management (CRM), project management, time tracking, expense tracking and employee collaboration tools. These applications give small firms a simple way to gain the advantages that previously were available only to large enterprises.
Prior to co-founding HubSpot, Shah was a founder and CEO of Pyramid Digital Solutions, a software company that created web solutions used by tens of thousands of businesses in the financial services sector. Pyramid was acquired by SunGard Business Systems in 2005.
Prior to co-founding HubSpot, Halligan was head of worldwide sales for Groove Networks, the P2P collaboration company founded by Ray Ozzie and acquired by Microsoft in 2005.

Kleanthis G. Xanthopoulos, of Anadys, to Join Enterprise Partners
Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, a leading Southern California venture capital firm focusing on the life sciences and technology, announced Thursday that Kleanthis G. Xanthopoulos, Ph.D., will join the firm by year-end as a Managing Director, after completing his transition from Anadys Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company he founded in 2000 and where he currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. He will remain on the Anadys Board of Directors.
Dr. Xanthopoulos was voted the 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the annual award ceremony June 14 in San Diego.
At Enterprise, Kleanthis will join Managing Directors Bob Conn, Carl Eibl, Drew Senyei and Bill Stensrud, along with Partner Emeritus Jim Berglund. The firm will continue investing in a balanced portfolio of technology and life sciences, with Xanthopoulos focusing initially on the expanding field of biopharmaceuticals. He joins the existing life sciences practice at Enterprise that includes Drew Senyei, M.D., and Entrepreneurs-in-Residence Krisztina Zsebo, Ph.D. and Steven Brauer.
Xanthopoulos is the Founder of Anadys Pharmaceuticals and has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and as a Director since May 2000. From 1997 to 2000 he held a variety of positions at Aurora Biosciences Corporation, including Vice President, Genomics & Molecular Biology. Xanthopoulos was a Section Head of the National Human Genome Research Institute at The National Institutes of Health. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Rockefeller University in New York from 1987 to 1990 and an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at the Karolinska Nobel Medical Institute, Sweden from 1991 to 1995. Xanthopoulos is also a member of the Board of Directors of Odyssey Thera, Inc. and Executive Board Member of BIOCOM, Southern California's life science industry association.
An Onassis Scholar, Dr. Xanthopoulos received his B.Sc. in Biology with honors from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and received both his M.Sc. in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Stockholm, Sweden.

Gary D. Nusbaum Joins Palladium Equity Partners as a Managing Director
Representatives of Palladium Equity Partners, LLC, a leading private equity firm based in New York, announced Wednesday that Gary D. Nusbaum has joined the firm as Managing Director. Mr. Nusbaum's background includes extensive experience in private equity, including the U.S. Hispanic market and Latin America.
Prior to joining Palladium Equity Partners, Nusbaum was a Managing Director and Head of Private Equity from 2003-2005 for Aetos Capital LLC, an independent investment management firm headquartered in New York. Nusbaum began his investment career at Warburg Pincus in 1989 where he became a Managing Director in 1997. At Warburg Pincus, he was a member of the firm's media practice, built and ran its office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and managed the firm's Latin American practice. Nusbaum is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania from which he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1988 and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business in 1989.
