SUBJECT: Update and guidance regarding the federal government shutdown
As you may be aware, the government partially shut down at midnight last night. The Office of Research has received updates from both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) regarding grant and award activities that may impact you as a researcher. These updates are attached for your review.
Both FastLane and Research.gov became inaccessible 12Noon CST. While some electronic systems will remain accessible during the shutdown, agencies are encouraging researchers not to submit applications (paper or electronic) or progress reports until agencies resume normal operations. Both technical officers and program staff will be unavailable to answer or respond to communications (e.g. time extension, rebudgeting, approval for a change in effort, etc.) during the funding lapse. It is recommended that you delay sending such communications until after normal operations resume.
