Integrative Pre-Algebra for Students in Homeless Situations
Administrative Guidelines
Instructions
The use of the Manipulative Materials is intended to help make students enjoy each session. Please help the student to relax and have fun doing pre-algebra.
Each PowerPoint presentation may take several sessions to complete.
All of the PowerPoint presentations are appropriate for students from third grade through high school. Suggested beginning presentations are:
-
Modeling numbers
- Building volume
- Transforming geometric shapes and Illustrating integers
- Computing fractions and Basic operations / Base 5 (Use manipulative materials that are less familiar to students.)
The length of a session is a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 90 minutes.
Each session (regardless of the length of time) must be concluded by completing a Tutor Report Form. The tutor report form may be printed online from the website and emailed to prealgbr@utdallas.edu.
For each PowerPoint presentation there is a form that is completed during the session or after multiple sessions that is used to rate the student from one (1) to ten (10) for the Pre-Algebra Activity.
The “Hints” on the PowerPoint presentation are provided for the tutor, but can also be read by the student.
Encourage the student to use the Manipulative Materials in the way they are demonstrated on the PowerPoint presentation.
