UTD. He was
also Professor of Economics and Professor of Political Economy
at the University.
He received
his AB from Bowling Green State University in 1957 and his
MA and PhD degrees from The University of California at Berkeley
in 1961. Before joining the UTD faculty in 1996, Professor
Kain was the Henry Lee Professor of Economics and Professor
of Afro-American Studies at Harvard University, where he taught
for 35 years. For a period of six years (1975-81), Professor
Kain served as Chairman of the Department of City and Regional
Planning in Harvard's Graduate School of Design and John F.
Kennedy School of Government and, during from 1988 to 1991,
he served as Chairman of Harvard's Economics Department. In
his lifetime, Professor Kain wrote extensively on urban economics,
housing markets, racial discrimination and transportation.
His books include The Urban Transportation Problem, Housing
Markets and Racial Discrimination: A Micro-Economic
Analysis and Housing and Neighborhood Dynamics: A Simulation
Study.
