Karen M. Jarrell

Favorite thing about teaching Rhetoric 1101: The students make it the greatest job in the world!
The biggest lesson I learned as a freshman: It’s okay to not know it all and ask for help rather than hope everything will turn out okay.
My favorite thing about UT Dallas: The students, the staff in the World Famous UT Dallas Registrar’s Office and Dr. Douglas J. Watson. (I know that’s three, but I love them equally).
My hobbies: Creating efficient and effective bureaucracies that are also representative and responsive, kayaking, Starbucks, theater, reading and playing with my daughter.
One book I think everyone should read is: Obviously, The Naked Roommate if they are working with incoming freshmen, or Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967).
Something that people may not know about me: I love to throw fish at other people in my spare time.
