Rhetoric 1101 Instructors

Thom Mackenzie

Position at UT Dallas: Rhetoric teaching assistant and Ph.D. student

College Alma Mater: Baylor University

Major in College: International Relations

Graduate Degree: Humanities

Favorite thing about teaching Rhetoric 1101: Besides chuckling over the outrageous presentations of students, I enjoy connecting with students to ensure that they not only succeed, but figure out what success means.

The biggest lesson I learned as a freshman: I could not write an essay using quotes from memory like my Kenyan roommate, who had a photographic memory.

My favorite thing about UT Dallas: Instructors that invest in students, who in turn are willing to consistently strive for excellence.

My hobbies: Gardening — or should I say re-gardening — all the perennials that died last year, and being a father to a soon-to-be not-so-terrible two-year-old.

One book I think everyone should read is: Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller.

Something that people may not know about me: It’s hard to shock me: after living in Hollywood for 10 years, I’ve seen it all.
