Why did you decide to become a First-Year Leader and an Orientation Team Mentor?
I want to make a contribution by serving as a role model and spirit leader for students new to the UT Dallas family. I am involved in many varied and wildly different organizations on campus and could, perhaps, provide a unique prospective to students. I feel as though I can make a difference in how new students approach UT Dallas and freshman year.
What advice do you have for the freshman class coming into UT Dallas?
1. Get involved
2. Pace yourself
3. Set priorities and stick with them
4. Have fun
5. But don’t have TOO much fun
What do you wish you did during your freshmen year that you didn’t?
I wish I had learned how to manage time during my first semester, rather than my second.
What do you like about UT Dallas?
How it is a technological miracle made for the modern world. The only thing ivy covered about UT Dallas is the intensive and innovative curriculum and the fact that it is a top-tier community for critical thinking and inventiveness. It is so new that every student has a chance to leave his or her own unique mark on the University.
Why did you decide to attend UT Dallas?
I feel that I am immensely fortunate to have such an extraordinary University right in my backyard. I looked around, I visited colleges across the country, but the place at which I felt I most belonged was The University of Texas at Dallas.
What has been your favorite/best UT Dallas experience so far?
Once you get involved with different groups and you make friends across the campus and within different areas of interest, something exciting will happen every week! It’s all about what you make of it. It would be really hard for me to pin down the one most exciting or fun or interesting thing I have done in the last two years.
What did you learn about college life that you didn’t know before?
When you are responsible for your own welfare, feeding, grades, bedtime/alarm clock, you have to do it yourself. For the first time ever, you have to be your own parent. The faster you learn to manage your time, the more successful you’ll be overall.
What do you like to do to unwind after class?
I never unwind. I am a tightly wound spring, but I have lots of friends, and we laugh constantly and that takes all the tension out of my life!
