Do you live on campus? If yes what do you like about living on your own?
Yes, and I really enjoy the freedom of living on my own. If you can manage your time wisely, you have a lot more flexibility with what you want to do, and it is a great experience.

List some of the clubs or organizations you are involved in at UT Dallas.
I am currently a senator in student government, and I am also a member of Habitat for Humanity. I have played just about every intramural sport since coming here in 2006, and our (apartment) building won in basketball and soccer.

List some of the clubs or organizations you are involved in outside of school.
I am a mentor for Heart House Dallas, an after school program for kids attending school in poverty-stricken areas. It is a wonderful opportunity to help people in need.

List some of your hobbies.
I like to play and watch sports. I am interested in politics, law and Christianity. I like to go to the movies, hang out with friends, walk, tell jokes and listen to music (which is a good thing because I definitely can’t sing!). In college I have discovered that I enjoy reading, primarily because I now can read what I want to read instead of what I need to read for class.

List something unique about yourself.
I’ve lived at least four years in three different countries. I was born and lived in Beijing, China until I was seven years old; I went to elementary school in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, and high school in Frisco, Texas.

Why did you decide to become a First-Year leader?
It’s a great opportunity to help freshmen get adjusted to life at UT Dallas. I think a person’s first year at any university is the most important, but it can also be the most intimidating, so I signed up to help students in that critical first year.

What advice do you have for the freshman class coming into UT Dallas?
Definitely get involved with as many things as you can. Meet new people and go to school events. It goes a long way in connecting you with the University. Also place a fair amount of emphasis in selecting classes. You can usually find professor ratings and course syllabi online; they can be very helpful at times.

What do you wish you did during your freshman year that you didn’t?
I met a lot of great people during my freshman year, but looking back I wish I would’ve branched out even more than just my close group of friends.

What do you like about UT Dallas?
I like a lot of things about UT Dallas. The students here are generally friendly and intelligent. It’s a large enough University that you can select from a wide variety of courses but also small enough to allow the professors to be accessible to students.

Why did you decide to attend UT Dallas?
In researching universities, I found that UT Dallas attracts some of the best students in the country. We are well on our way to becoming one of the top universities in the nation and if the students here get more involved with the University, and more specifically take active leadership roles at UT Dallas, that process will be accelerated exponentially.

What has been your favorite/best UT Dallas experience so far?
We tricked our neighbors once my freshman year — knocked on their door and ran upstairs, so they ended up thinking it was the guys who lived above them. The two apartments had a prank war going for a week. They eventually found out it was us, but up until that point it was pretty funny!

What did you learn about college life that you didn’t know before?
College life and the college population vary greatly from one student to the next. I believe this is a great opportunity for the student to get the college experience they believe is best for them.

What do you like to do to unwind after class?
I like to hang out with friends and find fun things to do.
