Avoid Nonessential Travel
CDC
- 05/26/15 Earthquake in Nepal. CDC recommends that US residents avoid all nonessential travel to Nepal. If you must travel, such as for humanitarian aid work, then protect yourself by following CDC’s advice below.
- 05/04/2015 Ebola standing travel notice. CDC urges all US residents to avoid nonessential travel to Guinea and Sierra Leone because of unprecedented outbreaks of Ebola in those countries.

Defer all travel/depart warning
- 05/22/2015 Afghanistan Travel Warning. The Department of State continues to warn U.S. citizens against travel to Afghanistan.
- 05/14/2015 Burundi Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens against all travel to Burundi and recommends that U.S. citizens currently in Burundi depart as soon as it is feasible to do so.
Safety and security concerns/threats
- 05/29/2015 Lebanon Travel Warning. The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon because of ongoing safety and security concerns.
- 05/20/2015 Philippines Travel Warning. The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to the Philippines, in particular to the Sulu Archipelago, certain regions and cities of the island of Mindanao, and the southern Sulu Sea area.
- 05/13/2015 Kenya Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Kenya.
- 05/07/2015 Mali Travel Warning. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Mali.

Take precautions against mosquito bites
- 05/26/2015 Ross River virus disease in Australia CDC recommends that travelers to Australia protect themselves from RRVD by preventing mosquito bites.
- 05/26/2015 Chikungunya Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Mexico, the Caribbean, the Pacific Islands, South America, and Central America protect themselves from chikungunya by preventing mosquito bites.
- 05/26/2015 Dengue Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Brazil and Malaysia protect themselves from dengue by preventing mosquito bites.
- 05/14/2015 Malaria in Brazil CDC recommends that travelers to the central, mountainous, forested areas of Rio de Janiero State and Goias State in Brazil protect themselves from mosquito bites.
Take water, food and hygiene precautions to protect against colds, flu and other illnesses
- 05/26/2015 HFMD Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Japan and Singapore follow recommendations for hygiene and cleanliness to avoid HFMD.
- 05/26/2015 Cholera Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Haiti, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Ghana protect themselves from cholera by following food and water precautions.
- 05/26/2015 Tropical Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu. CDC recommends that travelers to Vanuatu take precautions to protect their health.
- 05/14/2015 MERS in the Arabian Peninsula. Cases of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) have been identified in multiple countries in the Arabian Peninsula. For more information, see CDC’s MERS website.
Take vaccination precautions
- 05/14/2015 Hepatitis A in Mexico (Tulum) CDC recommends that travelers to Mexico get vaccinated against hepatitis A and follow all food and water precautions.
- 05/25/2015 Measles Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Germany, Vietnam, Philippines, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, and Bosnia and Herzegovina protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against measles.
- 05/15/2015 Meningococcal Disease Advisory. CDC recommends that travelers to Niger and Nigeria get vaccinated with quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine, which protects against N. meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. Travelers who continue to be at risk should receive a booster dose every 5 years.
- 05/15/2015 Mumps in Scotland CDC recommends that travelers to Scotland protect themselves by making sure they are vaccinated against mumps before travel.
- 05/14/2015 Typhoid in Uganda CDC recommends that travelers to Uganda get typhoid vaccine before traveling and follow water and food precautions during their trip to help prevent typhoid.
- 05/14/15 Polio advisory. CDC recommends that all travelers to Somalia, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea be fully vaccinated against polio. In addition, adults should receive a one-time booster dose of polio vaccine.
Take precautions to avoid contact with animals
- 05/26/2015 Avian Flu (H7N9) in China CDC advises people traveling to China to avoid contact with poultry (including poultry markets and farms), birds, and their droppings. There are no recommendations against travel to China.
- 05/26/2015 Bird Flu (H5N1) in Egypt CDC recommends that travelers to Egypt protect themselves from H5N1 by avoiding contact with wild birds, live or uncooked poultry, and body fluids from birds and poultry.
Take precautions to keep safe and healthy at events or mass gatherings
- 2015 World Expo in Milan, Italy May 14, 2015 The 2015 World Exposition will be held in Milan, Italy, from May 1, 2015, through October 31, 2015. Take some simple precautions to help you stay safe and healthy.
- 05/14/2015 Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia. The annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is among the largest mass gatherings in the world. This year, Hajj will take place from approximately September 20–25, 2015. Umrah is a similar pilgrimage that can be undertaken at any time of the year but is likely to be more crowded during the month of Ramadan (approximately June 17 to July 17, 2015). Follow CDC’s recommendations, such as being up-to-date on your vaccines, to help keep you safe and healthy.

- 06/01/2015 MERS-CoV Outbreaks in the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
U.S. Department of State
- 06/03/2015 2015 Hurricane and Typhoon Season. The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to the Hurricane and Typhoon Seasons in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico.
- 05/15/2015 Ethiopia Travel Alert. The State Department alerts U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Ethiopia to exercise caution and remain abreast of the security situation throughout the electoral period. This Travel Alert expires on June 30, 2015.
- 05/08/2015 Burundi Travel Alert. The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to the risks of traveling to Burundi and urges caution during its election season which could extend from May through September 2015.

- 06/03/2015 South Sudan. The Security Council today expressed its grave concern over the security and humanitarian situation in the country, which has been torn by “a conflict that is only growing more violent as it nears its 18th month.”

- 06/01/2015 Summary of public health threats, CDTR week 22/2015. This issue covers the period 24 to 30 May 2015 and includes updates on measles, Middle East respiratory syndrome – coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Ebola virus disease (EVD).

- 05/26/2015 WHO Situation report. 4.2 million affected, 88 482 Displaced, 21 925 Injured, 8659 Deaths. There is a risk of increase in communicable diseases, including diarrhoea, respiratory infections and mosquito-borne diseases particularly with the rainy season approaching soon. There is heightened concern about the risk of outbreaks of communicable diseases, including water-borne diseases, vector-borne diseases and acute respiratory infections, in areas of overcrowding and where water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) systems have been disrupted.

- 05/09/2015 Ebola in Liberia. CDC is no longer recommending that US residents avoid nonessential travel to Liberia. However, CDC recommends that US residents practice enhanced precautions when traveling to Liberia.
