Emergency Management Internship Program


The goal of The University of Texas at Dallas, Office of Emergency Management Internship program is to provide an intern with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills obtained in the classroom to real-world working situations. The program also offers interns the opportunity to gain experience in planning, organizing, evaluating, and participating in various Emergency and disaster programs. Furthermore, it provides the intern with a constructive review and evaluation of their skills and competencies; thus, allowing realistic direction to further professional development.


Completion of University requirements with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.8 in Emergency Management coursework and:

  1. Orientation: Learn departmental and university policies and procedures.
  2. Special Project: The intern and their supervisor will determine the type and scope of project. The intern will plan, organize, promote, implement and present the project for evaluation.
  3. Meetings: The intern will attend all necessary meetings and planning session as requested by the office supervisor.
  4. Training: FEMA Independent Study Courses: Introduction to NIMS IS.700, National Response Framework IS.800.B, ICS 100 & ICS 200. These courses can be completed prior to or during the internship. All trainings can be accessed and are free of charge at the FEMA Independent Study Website at
  5. Additional Assignments: Throughout the internship, the office supervisor will delegate assignments that are important to the success of the office’s mission and programs. Therefore, successful completion of all assigned tasks by the intern is required.
