A Teacher's Guide to th Geology of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Guam
http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/viewrecord?3660

Guam is at the bottom. Image is about 600 km from top to bottom. Trending north from Guam are the frontal arc islands of Rota, Tinian and Saipan, the last two hidden under clouds. Offset a bit and continuing north from Saipan are the volcanic islands of Anatahan, Sarigan, Guguan, Alamagan, Pagan and Agrigan, the last two hidden under clouds. The Mariana Trench lies at the eastern edge of the image and the Mariana Trough back-arc basin spreading axis lies a little farther west of Guam than the distance from Rota to Guam. Our field area extends west of the region from Rota to Saipan.

There are serpentine mud volcanoes that erupt at ambient temperature. They support their own weird brand of life, analogous to that at the famous black smokers discovered with the Alvin.
