Summer Camps

 

Beginning Robotics

 

Dates: June 9 - June 20, 2014
Time: 9am - Noon or 1pm - 4pm
Ages: 8-14 years old

Description: This two-week half day camp is an introduction to robotics using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 System. Learn to build and program EV3 robots for a competition at the end of the week. This is perfect preparation for competing in the FIRST LEGO League competition in the fall.

Advanced Robotics

Date: June 23 - June 27, 2014
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 11-16 years old

Description: During this week long camp participants will learn how to build and program a Tetrix robot. This w ill help students successfully compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition next fall and spring.

Cost: $375

Competitive Robotics

Dates: August 4 - 8, 2014
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 9-14 years old

Description: This one-week full-day camp is an introduction to robotics using the LEGO Mindstorms System, intended for students wanting to compete in the FIRST Lego League competition in the fall 2014 season. We will be exploring the new FLL challenge, FLL World Class. Students will be able to build and program a robot to do tasks on the new field and get a feel for what being on an FLL team is like, providing a head start for the upcoming season.

Solar Car Camp

Date: June 9 - July 3, 2014
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 13-18 years old

Description: During this 4-week camp we will be building a solar car to go on a 100 mile road trip. During this intensive engineering course students will learn about solar power, battery power, software, and mechanical design as we put together a solar car that the students will be able to drive safely on the roadways. This camp is intended for students who are interested in engineering as a career.

Cost: $1,200

Quad Copter Camp

Date: July 28 - August 8, 2014
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 13-18 years old

Description: During this 2-week camp students will be introduced to some of the premier schools at the University of Texas at Dallas. First they will work with the school of management to develop a business plan for an immerging technology, quad copters, small unmanned aerial systems (SUAS). Then they will create and modify a quad copter to fit the business need with help from the engineering school. And, finally work on a marketing plan using graphic arts. The final project will be presented to a panel of experts for evaluation.

Space Exploration: Rockets and Weather Balloons

Dates: July 14 - July 25, 2014
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 13-18 years old

Description: During this 2-week camp students will learn about the basics of space flight through rocketry. They will then send a weather balloon up to 30,000 feet and monitor the temperature and pressure of the atmosphere as the balloon rises through the atmosphere. They will also use a 3D printer, design using CAD, and learn to use a GoPro camera and program sensors.
