History
The Committee on Sexual Assault Prevention was formed in Fall 2005 to evaluate the UTD campus climate regarding sexual assault and to make recommendations regarding procedures for prevention, reporting, discipline, and support. This committee was formed in response to the final report issued by the UTD Presidential Advisory Commission on Residential Housing. The commission put forth a series of recommendations regarding sexual assault and prevention at UTD, which included:
- Create a “Sexual Assault Response Team” (S.A.R.T.)
- Foster a climate that minimizes sexual assault incidents, which impact the UTD community
- Promote a supportive environment where victims and subjects are treated according to UTD policy
- Create a climate that encourages victims to report incidents of sexual assault without fear
- Establish sexual assault prevention training and awareness programs to educate students
- Offer sensitive and comprehensive treatment to restore victims’ health and well being
- Help leaders understand their roles and responsibilities regarding response to sexual assault victims, thoroughly investigate allegations of sexual assault and take appropriate administrative and disciplinary action
- Conduct sensitivity training for members of the sexual assault response team, so that revictimization is minimized, to train advocates to assist victim/survivors with crisis intervention, and to reduce victims’ stress resulting from sexual assault
The UniTeD Against Sexual Assault project serves the UTD campus and community by providing comprehensive educational programs and information on the issue of violence, including but not limited to, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and domestic violence. Our primary goals are to raise awareness about the importance of personal safety and healthy relationships. Also, we seek to provide confidential communication, emotional support and resources to survivors who have experienced a recent or past incident of sexual assault. When you need help… we're here for you. |
