Date Rape Drugs

Most commonly used, in addition to alcohol, are Rohypnol, GHB and Ketamine.

Rohypnol (Roofies)

Rohypnol comes in pill form that dissolves in liquid. It takes effect within 15 - 30 minute, and the effects can last 4 - 6 hours. Rohypnol can be detected in urine up to 72 hours after ingestion and several hours later in the blood.

Effects:

  • Muscle relaxation or loss of muscle control
  • Difficulty with motor movements
  • Drunk feeling
  • Problems talking
  • Nausea
  • Loss of consciousness (black out)
  • Confusion
  • Problems seeing
  • Dizziness
  • Sleepiness
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Stomach problems
  • Death

GHB

GHB is odorless and colorless, and can be liquid, powder or in pill form. It takes effect within 30 minutes, and the effects can last for 4 - 6 hours. GHB can be detected in urine up to 12 hours after ingestion.

Effects:

  • Relaxation
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Blurred vision
  • Loss of consciousness (black out)
  • Seizures
  • Problems breathing
  • Tremors
  • Sweating
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased heart rate
  • Dream-like feeling
  • Coma
  • Death

Ketamine

Ketamine comes in liquid or powder form. It takes effect within 15 - 20 minutes, and the effects can last 2 - 8 hours.

Effects:

  • Distorted perceptions of sight and sound
  • Lost sense of time and identity
  • Out of body experience
  • Dream-like feeling
  • Feeling out of control
  • Impaired motor function
  • Problems breathing
  • Convulsions
  • Vomiting
  • Memory problems
  • Numbness
  • Loss of coordination
  • Aggressive or violent behavior
  • Depression
  • High blood pressure
  • Slurred speech
