Application Procedure
The following documents must be completed before your application will be reviewed for admission to the SIPID institute at UT Dallas.
Application Components

Chairman’s Recommendation Letter
A letter of recommedation

from the department Chair must state the following which confirms that the applicant has permission to fully participate in the SIPID program.
- The candidate will be granted 5% protected time and effort throughout the 2-year training period,
- 20% effort will be dedicated during the summer institutes (~2-weeks), and
- The applicant will have access to institutional resources for preparing grant applications.
This letter should also address the candidate’s potential for independent research and dedication to a long-term academic career. The letter must accompany the completed Application Packet and must bear an original signature across the seal to be accepted.
Mentor or Colleague’s Recommendation Letter
A second letter from a former mentor (

PhD thesis, postdoctoral fellowship, subspecialty training etc.) or colleague is required. This letter should address among other points, the candidates potential for independent research and dedication to a long-term academic career. The letter must accompany the completed Application Packet and must bear an original signature across the seal to be accepted.
Application Deadline
The SIPID screening Committee will review applications and make recommendations to the Program Director. A written notification of the final decision will be provided to the applicant electronically followed by confirmation of the decision in writing by mail.
Regular Admission
Application Deadline: APRIL 1, 2009.
Policy for multiple SIPID applications
There will be three SIPID institutes offered in the summer 2008 (See SIPID Brochure

); one related to Blood Disorders (The University of Texas at Dallas), Health Disparities in Cardiovascular Disease (SUNY Downstate University, Brooklyn, NY) and Biostatistics and Genetics (Washington University, St. Louis, Mo). Mentees may apply to more than one SIPID Program. If an applicant is accepted in more than one program, a timely final decision as to which program he/she will attend must be made.
After a Mentee has accepted a position in a SIPID Program, the other program(s) should be notified immediately, and the second application will be withdrawn. Once a written commitment has been made to one program, a candidate will not be allowed to switch SIPID programs. There may be a limited opportunity for Mentees to attend sessions at other institutes if no conflict in schedule occurs and/or space is available in the SIPID program of interest. Permission to attend limited sessions in another institute must be obtained from the Program Directors of both institutes. If funds are available, the Mentee may be supported for this additional training, otherwise the expense will be covered by the Mentee from personal funds.
Note, applicant will have 7 days to send a letter of acceptance or decline, any offer for admission in order to hold his/her place in the program.
