Comet Carnival Staff Appreciation Event
Staff Council members on the Staff Development Committee helped organize the Comet Carnival event in March. Hundreds of staff members attended the event, took part in the games and enjoyed the carnival foods including corn dogs and funnel cakes. U.S. military veterans may be eligible for a variety of federal and state benefits. But often there are common questions that veteran employees at campuses, including UT Dallas, might have:
- What type of benefits am I eligible to receive?
- What are the differences between each benefit?
- How do I know the amount of benefits I will receive?
- What does each benefit cover (tuition and fees, housing, books, etc.)?
For information on these topics, UT Dallas staff members who are veterans are encouraged to contact the Veteran Services Center and speak with Veterans’ Benefits Coordinator Sara Foxworthy. She can be reached directly at email@example.com or (972) 883-4336.
Did you know?
The Hazlewood Exemption Act provides an education benefit to honorably discharged or separated Texas veterans and to eligible dependent children and spouses of Texas veterans. Eligible students may receive an exemption from the payment of all tuition and most fees at Texas public institutions for up to 150 credit hours. Depending on the type of VA benefits received, students may also receive Hazlewood and VA benefits at the same time.
For more information about the Hazlewood Exemption Act, visit the websites available through the UT Dallas Office of Financial Aid and the Texas Veterans Commission. Elaine Starr in the Office of Financial Aid can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (972) 883-4858 for those with further questions.
The Veteran Services Center on the ground floor of the McDermott Library offers a variety of resources, as well as a lounge space where veterans — whether students, staff or faculty — can meet and relax.
Veterans in need of a counseling resource are asked to contact the Student Counseling Center in the Student Services Building in suite 4.600 or by phone at 972-883-2575.
