Recycling Changes on Campus

Recycling just got easier!  At the beginning of this semester, UT Dallas moved from source-separated recycling to single stream, which means all your recyclables can go into one bin. See below for a list of items that can go into your recycling container.

From 2012 to 2014, UT Dallas generated more than 6.7 million pounds of trash; only 28-29% of that waste stream was diverted to recycling.  The UT Dallas Sustainability Program would like to increase our recycling rate. Please help us green our campus by diverting waste from the landfill. If you have a special event or an end-of-semester office clean-out, Facilities Management can deliver bins and totes to you.

The following items can be recycled in your office recycling bin:

  • Paper (any color)
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Envelopes, junk mail, post it notes
  • Cardboard (for boxes or larger amounts, please contact [email protected] to schedule a pick-up)
  • Aluminum cans and metal containers
  • Plastic bottles and containers

Battery recycling is available through EH&S. Ink jet and toner cartridges will still be collected separately at designated recycling stations around campus.  These recyclables are sold to a third-party vendor and funds collected are used to benefit the Staff Council Scholarship Fund. If you do not know where to recycle these special wastes, please contact Facilities Management.
