Suggestions and Ideas Under Consideration

Staff Council exists as a means for UT Dallas staff to communicate suggestions and difficulties to the administration in an open, collaborative process. Below are the issues that have been submitted to Staff Council for consideration and possible action.

2014-001s Retiree Parking Rights

Specific request was for retired staff and faculty to be able to use the Silver parking pass if they return to work at the University for part time (10 – 20 hour/week) commitments.
Status: In Benefits Committee; currently interfacing with relevant departments.

2014-002s Workplace Bullying

Specific issue involves mitigation of antagonistic relationships between staff and non-staff employees of UT Dallas (administration, faculty, instructors).
Status: In Staff Development Committee; currently gathering information.

2014-003s Cigarette Butts as Litter

Specific issue cited frequent presence of numerous cigarette butts in front areas of JSOM. Issue was combined with similar complaint dealing with HH.
Status: In Ad Hoc Committee; currently interfacing with relevant departments.

2014-003s Signage in Parking Structure 3

Specific issue requested clearer (color coded signage) for PS3.
Status: In Committee; currently interfacing with relevant departments.

2014-004s Ombudsman

Specific issue requested an ombudsman to be hired at UT Dallas as an official, impartial respondent, advocate, and mediator for staff and faculty grievances.
Status: In Executive Committee; issue tabled with Dr. Daniel’s departure and pending resumption of conversation with administration.

2014-005s Lot S Parking Restrictions

Specific issue requested that a way be found to share Callier patient parking (Green) with staff owing to the loss of spaces from the Loop Road project.
Status: In Committee; issue tabled with construction of Callier Richardson expansion.

2014-006s Faculty/Staff Gym

Specific issue requested that the existing gyms on campus be open to faculty/staff until the new fitness center is complete. Requested information on whether or not there was to be a fee.
Status: In Committee; currently gathering information.

Tuition Waiver for Dependants of Staff

Issue from previous cycle; specific issue requested that UT Dallas offer complimentary tuition for the children of staff/faculty. Unfortunately, state funds cannot be used for this purpose according to UT System. UT Dallas administration sympathetic to a private funding or scholarship model.
Status: In Executive Committee; issue tabled with Dr. Daniel’s departure and pending resumption of conversation with administration.
