How to Add, Drop and Withdraw From Your Classes

All new students, including freshman, and undeclared students must come in person to their advisor to do all registration transactions.

After the last day of late registration, online registration will no longer be available to students for registration or adding. Dropping or withdrawing continues online through the last day to withdraw without needing signatures or for Undergraduates when the WP/WF period begins. Please follow the guidelines below for changing your schedule.

NOTE:  Please be aware that you cannot change courses or sections between sessions after the respective session's Census Day; doing so will result in additional charges.

Adding Courses

Students may add courses to their schedules in person until the published last day to add deadline. Students may not add after that date. See Comet Calendar for last day to add.

  • Go to your advising office and obtain a Registration Form.
  • Complete form and obtain appropriate signatures. You must have signatory approval from the professor of the course to add a course after the first class day. All new students, freshmen, undeclared majors, and students who need registration clearance must have their advisor's signature to change their schedule.
  • Bring form to your advisor or the Office of the Registrar for processing.
  • Go to Bursar's Office to pay any additional charges.
Once a course is added, you will be charged for the course and you will receive a grade of "F" if you do not attend the class and do not drop it. If you do not plan to attend an added course, you must officially drop the course.

Limitations on Course Withdrawals for Undergraduate Students (Texas Six-Drop Rule)

As enacted by the State of Texas Legislature, undergraduate students will not be permitted to withdraw from more than six courses, including any course a transfer student has withdrawn from at another institution of higher education. This rule goes into effect with first time freshman in the Fall 2007 semester and applies if: the student was able to withdraw from the course without receiving a grade or incurring an academic penalty, the student’s transcript indicates or will indicate that the student was enrolled in the course, and the student is not withdrawing from the course in order to withdraw from the institution. Non-academic withdrawals are exempt from counting toward the six drop rule. The process for an approved non-academic withdrawal can be found online in the Academic Policies and Procedures section of the Undergraduate Catalog under the heading Dropping/Adding Courses in the Policies Menu. More information about this policy can be found at the "Texas Six-Withdrawals Rule" webpage.
