Reporting U.S. Departure

F-1 students who choose to leave the U.S. permanently after graduation or OPT should take steps to leave the U.S. in good immigration standing.

General Info

  1. F-1 students have a 60-day grace period after graduation (if you will not continue on to OPT) or after OPT in which you may remain in the U.S. to prepare for departure. If you remain beyond the grace period you are in violation with the terms of your visa. This could negatively impact future visa applications or travel.
  2. Notify the UT Dallas ISSO of your intent to leave the U.S. permanently.
  3.  Although not required, if you provide a copy of the E-ticket, paper ticket or boarding pass to an international student advisor, ISSO staff will note your intent to leave the U.S. in good immigration standing on the given date.
  4. Special Registration students must also follow U.S. departure instructions listed in the walk-away materials supplied to the student upon initial entry to the U.S.

For more information, please contact an international student advisor.
