On-Campus Employment

[All information is subject to change without notice.]

A student in valid F-1 status may work up to 20 hours per week on-campus while maintaining a valid UTD I-20, and while in their degree program.  The UTD I-20 is used to verify work eligibility for on-campus positions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I work?

The F-1 regulation regarding on-campus employment, found at 8 C.F.R. 214.2 (f)(9)(i), states that on-campus employment must either be performed on the school's premises, including on-location commercial firms which provide services for students on campus (such as the UTD Bookstore, Aramark, UTD departments, etc), or at an off-campus location which is educationally affiliated with the school (UTD Industrial Research Assistantships). Employment with on-site commercial firms, such as a construction company building a school building, which do not provide direct student services is not deemed on-campus employment.

Where can I find out about available on-campus jobs?

The UTD Career Center, located in the basement of the McDermott Library, has a database of UTD on-campus jobs.  You can visit their Web site for a listing of jobs.

Can I work on-campus full time in the summer?

Yes.  On-campus employment may be full time (40 hours per week) during vacation periods (summer, spring break, winter break) for students who have maintained F-1 status before the vacation periods, and intend to register for the following semester.

Can I work at the Golf Tee?

No.  Work done at the Golf Tee is not considered as on-campus employment even though UTD does own the land where these businesses reside.

Can I work 25 hours one week and then 15 hours the next week?

No.  There is no exception to the 20 hour per week limit during the academic year.
