Changes in Social Security Eligibility (9/22/04)

[All information is subject to change without notice.]

Starting October 13, 2004 F-1 students will need to have secured employment at a specific location before a Social Security number will be issued.

We strongly encourage any eligible F-1 student who does not already have a social security number to obtain one prior to the implementation of the new rule. If you are in valid F-1 status, enrolled in a full course for study for fall 2004, and intend to work on-campus, you are eligible to apply for a social security card up until October 13, 2004.

If you have not yet applied for a Social Security number and you meet the criteria above, please come to the ISS Office and request a Social Security letter as soon as possible so that your application can be processed prior to the implementation date of the new requirements.
