J-1 Students Transferring to UT Dallas from another U.S. institution

If you have been admitted to UT Dallas and you currently are a J-1 student at another U.S. institution and are transferring your SEVIS record to UT Dallas, this is the section for you.  Please read below the steps to take to obtain your UT Dallas DS-2019.

    1. Compile the following documents:

    • Sponsorship Letter. The sponsorship letter must verify your funding source as government funds.  The statement should not be more than six months old at the time of enrollment at UT Dallas.
    • DS-2019 Request form.  Please download this form.
      • Copy of your passport ID page, this is the page that contains your picture, name and date of expiry
      • Copy of your I-94, both sides
      • Copy of your visa
      • Copy of your most current DS-2019

    2. Submit these documents by email or fax to the International Student Services Office 30 days before your program start date.

      • email to ISSOProspective@utdallas.edu.  Before emailing, please verify that the total of your attachments is no larger than 5MB. Do not send files in compressed formats, such as .rar or .zip. Instead, use a PDF, JPEG or DOC format.
      • fax to (972) 883-4010

    3. Talk with your Immigration Advisor in your current school to determine the best date to release your SEVIS record to UT Dallas. Please have the Responsible Officer at your current institution contact Imperio Shanks at imperio@utdallas.edu to facilitate this transfer.

    4. Communicate with Imperio Shanks from the UT Dallas ISSO at imperio@utdallas.edu  if you meet one of the following exceptions:

      • You are graduating from your current program,
      • Your current DS-2019 will expire before you will be issued your UT Dallas DS-2019, or
      • You will travel outside the U.S. and re-enter between your attendance at your current school and UT Dallas.

    5. Wait to receive an email from the ISSO saying that your DS-2019 is ready to be mailed. You should sign and pick up your DS-2019 from our office as soon as you receive notice it is ready, and no later than within 30 days after your program start date.  Not doing so will pose a risk to your J-1 status.
