F-1 students transferring to UT Dallas from another U.S. institution
If you have been admitted to UT Dallas and you are currently an F-1 student at another U.S. institution and will transfer your SEVIS record to UT Dallas, this is the section for you. Please read below the steps to take to obtain your UT Dallas Transfer Complete I-20.
Compile the following documents to obtain the UT Dallas I-20
- The UT Dallas Financial Affidavit form
- Supplemental financial support documents, if applicable. All supplemental funding documents must meet the requirements listed on the UT Dallas website at: http://www.utdallas.edu/isso/financials.
- Copy of the passport ID page, that shows your name, photo and expiration date
Submit your documents to the ISSO
Submit your documents and transfer your SEVIS immigration record to UT Dallas no earlier than 30 days prior to the first day of classes and no later than the Start Date for your admission term. It is to your advantage to submit your documents as early as possible so your UT Dallas I-20 can be issued before reaching the immigration deadlines.
1. Attach to the UT Dallas financial affidavit a copy of your required documents. Also attach supplemental funding documents, if applicable.
2. Submit the UT Dallas financial affidavit and supplemental documents to the UT Dallas ISSO in person, by mail, or by e-mail.
- In person: Submit to the UT Dallas Student Services Building 3.400. Monday - Thursday, 8:30am to 6pm. Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
- By mail (additional electronic copies are not required): Mail to International Student Services/ The University of Texas at Dallas / 800 W. Campbell Road, SSB34 / Richardson, TX 75080-3021.
- By e-mail (additional paper copies are not required):
- e-mail your documents to ISSOProspective@utdallas.edu.
- Verify that the total size of attachments in one e-mail is no larger than 5MB. Do not send files in compressed formats, such as .rar or .zip. Instead, use a PDF, JPEG or DOC format.
Transfer your SEVIS immigration record to UT Dallas
- Print your Transfer Guide for information that will assist you with this process
- Talk with the immigration advisor at the school that holds your SEVIS record to determine the best date to release your SEVIS record to UT Dallas.
- Communicate with the UT Dallas ISSO at ISSOProspective@utdallas.edu if you will travel outside the U.S. before attending your International Student Orientation.
Learn about the status of your I-20
- Wait to receive an email from the ISSO saying that your Transfer Complete I-20 is ready. You should sign and pick up your Transfer Complete I-20 from the UT Dallas ISSO as soon as you receive notice it is ready, and no later than the Census Day of your admission term. Not doing so will pose a risk to your F-1 status.
- If you have not received an email from the ISSO, inquire on the status of your I-20 by sending an email to ISSOProspective@utdallas.edu.
