Students Graduating in Summer 2008

Beginning this year (2008), the University of Texas at Dallas will no longer be holding a summer commencement ceremony. We will continue to award degrees at the end of the summer term. The official summer 2008 graduation date will be August 23, 2008. Diplomas will be mailed to students with no holds on their accounts about 6-8 weeks after this date. Students anticipating completion of degree requirements in the summer 2008 term will need to apply for summer graduation by deadlines* as listed, below. Summer 2008 graduation applicants will then have an option—depending upon guidelines as detailed, below, and the graduation applicant’s preference-- regarding participation a commencement ceremony.

PARTICIPATION IN THE MAY 9th-10th 2008 SPRING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY (spring schedule of ceremonies) Summer 2008 applicants for graduation will be eligible to select this option under the following guidelines:

You must meet the following degree requirements:

Undergraduate students must have no more than 9 semester credit hours outstanding toward all degree requirements by the end of spring 2008.
Graduate students must have no more than 6 semester credit hours outstanding toward all degree requirements by the end of spring 2008.

Your application for summer 2008 graduation must be received in the Office of the Registrar by April 9, 2008*. Please note—this is not the deadline to apply for Summer 2008 Graduation. This is the deadline to apply if you plan to participate in the spring commencement ceremony.

The deadline to submit a Graduation RSVP for the Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony has passed. If you have applied for graduation but missed the RSVP deadline (April 9th), email your name and degree information to graduation@utdallas.edu. Please be advised--we cannot guarantee guest tickets for RSVPs submitted after the deadline.

The Commencement Ceremony Participation Intent form—with the appropriate approval signatures-- must be received by the Office of the Registrar no later than April 9, 2008. You request this form from your academic advisor.

Undergraduate students must submit this form to the Office of the Registrar with your summer 2008 Application of Graduation.
Graduate students must submit one copy of the form to the Office of the Registrar and one copy to the Graduate Dean’s Office at the point of your application for graduation.

You must meet all guidelines as detailed, above, and have the following approval:

Undergraduate students must have the approval of their academic department/academic advisor.
Graduate students must have the approval of their academic advisor (non-thesis candidates) or their supervising professor (thesis candidates).
Doctoral candidates please contact the Office of Graduate Studies.

PLEASE NOTE --Students may participate in one ceremony per degree. Summer applicants for graduation who opt to participate in the Spring 2008 Commencement Ceremony will not be eligible to walk in a future ceremony for the same degree. Summer 2008 undergraduate graduation applicants will not be eligible to walk with the Latin honors distinction if they chose to walk (early) in the spring 2008 ceremony. Any Latin honors received upon completion of all degree requirements will appear on students’ UT Dallas transcript and diploma. Latin honors recipients who opt to participate in the fall 2008 commencement ceremony will be eligible to walk with the applicable Latin honor distinction at that time.

PARTICIPATION IN THE DECEMBER 19th-20th 2008 FALL COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY or NON-PARTICIPATION Summer 2008 applicants for graduation who will not be participating in the spring 2008 ceremony should select this option. Please be aware of the following guidelines:

Your application for summer 2008 graduation must be received in the Office of the Registrar by the posted deadlines.

Summer 2008 Application for Graduation deadline = June 5, 2008*
$100 late fee charged for Summer 2008 Applications for Graduation submitted = June 6, 2008 – August 4, 2008
Last day to submit a late Summer 2008 Application for Graduation = August 4, 2008*

All degree requirements must be completed by the end of the summer 2008 term. Please note--should you fail to complete all degree requirements you must re-apply for graduation. Your eligibility to participate in a commencement ceremony will then fall under the guidelines of the semester for which you re-apply for graduation.

You must submit an online graduation RSVP to the fall 2008 ceremony by November 19, 2008.
