Students Graduating Next Semester

The semester before you graduate you must see your advisor for an audit of your degree plan to determine if you are ready to apply for graduation. If your advisor has determined that you are ready to graduate, you should fill out an application for graduation.

The application must be completed in its entirety, signed by your advisor, and delivered to the Office of the Registrar by the published deadline. A $100 late application fee per degree sought will be applied after the published deadline.

If you do not graduate in the semester you plan to, you will need to repeat the application process. If you do not reapply by the deadline for that semester you will be responsible for the late fee for each application again.

Double Degree and Double Major Students

Double degree students will need to fill out two separate applications.

Double major students will need to designate both majors on a single application and note which is your primary major.

Students Not Taking Courses at UT Dallas During Their Last Semester

If you will not be taking courses at UT Dallas during your last semester, you must fill out an In Absentia form along with your application for graduation. The In Absentia fee is $100.00 and is non-refundable and non-transferable. The In Absentia form is available from your advisor. This form is required if you are an:

  • Undergraduate completing an incomplete (X), completing your degree with a pre-approved off campus course, or if you missed the application deadline for a prior semester but have completed all your degree requirements. Taking an incomplete during your final semester at UT Dallas will keep you from graduating.
  • Graduate candidate who has completed all degree requirements except for the submission of final approved copies of thesis, dissertation or other required reports. The In Absentia form must be delivered with your application for graduation to the Office of the Registrar.

Off Campus Transfer Work Policy

If you have taken courses off campus within the last semester, you must submit official transcripts to UT Dallas immediately to ensure the work counts on your degree plan. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope to be considered official.

We highly recommend that students do not take required courses off campus during their last semester at UT Dallas. However, if it is absolutely necessary, it is vital to read the Taking Courses Off Campus Policy.

We hope we have provided you with the information you need to make your graduation a success. For more information on degree plans and requirements, see the University Catalog.
