President's Letter
August 20, 2009
Dear Comets -
Welcome back to school! A lot of exciting events happened this summer: freshmen moved into the new residence hall, the dining hall served its first group of people, and Governor Perry signed Bill 51 on our campus! How many other universities are growing like we are in such economically trying times? Not many.
My first three months in Student Government Office have been a whirlwind of meetings, events, and emails, a lot of emails. Along with these things was the honor of serving on several university committees. In these committee meetings, I find that again and again, administrators will pause meetings, quiet rooms, and ask me what the students think.
As students, we have a heavy influence in what happens on this campus, which means we need to pick our battles wisely. While grumbling about construction and parking on the way to the Student Union, let’s not miss out on the BIGGER picture: constantly improving our university both academically and socially for any student who becomes a Comet.
Student Government wants to improve your experience at the university, but your experience at the university largely depends on you – your varied perspectives, your reasoned input, and your sincere efforts. Student Government exists as the body that pools students’ interests and finds fitting solutions, but senators cannot do this without your help. We are your elected and appointed representatives – keep us accountable!
Please navigate the website, find out more about how we work, and give your opinions! Drop by the office (SU 2.4), email us, stop us on our way to class, and let us know how things are going for you. Best of luck this year. I intend to keep in touch.
Bests,
Diana Kao
