Courtesy Notification for Parking

Postby bvn081000 on Thu Apr 09, 2009 10:38 am

I believe the school should send out courtesy notification about parking lots that are going to be closed for a day due to an event. Since this is a commuter campus I think it would be very nice to receive an e-mail about a parking lot closing instead of going all the way down to find out a police office just standing there and cars stopping to ask about it. It is very inconvenient and a waste of time for the students as well as the staff at this University. It only takes probably less than 30 seconds to send an e-mail to everyone than being delayed by 5-10 minutes.

Thank you.

It is my understanding that the Police send notifications to students, faculty and staff when lots are being closed.

I didn't get an email the last time lots were closed for an event.

Yes, this would be a great idea. The last time it happened I was very frustrated. It's unfair for the students to be late to class simply because lots were reserved and we were not notified. Notifying the students and others beforehand would help out everyone.

I do not get the notifications either.
TODAY! I was late as half of the parking lot at the SOM was roped off.

What consideration of the students is taken in terms of time of day for working on the parking lots?

The University offers both daytime and nighttime classes, so blocking off an entire parking lot could potentially be an inconvenience to any students at any point in time. The lack of notifications, however, for blocking off parking lots was an issue that a representative from Student Government had brought to the Parking and Transportation committee towards the end of this last semester, so we should hopefully see improvements in the coming year. Please let me know if you have further questions.
